NXT (Episode 275) 4/29 Musings

If you are looking for a hold by hold re-cap, this isn’t it. Here’s how it works, I watch wrestling and record my thoughts, good or bad. I might not even get to who won the match or how.

Last week Kevin Owens successfully defended his NXT Championship against Alex Riley and after the match Sami Zayn came down for a post-match brawl.

This weeks show starts off with Kevin Owens hitting the ring. The fans serenade Owens with an “Ole” chant and he calls it “cute”. Owens calls out Sami Zayn.

But instead William Regal comes out.

Boooo!

Regal and Owens have a brief back and forth and then Sami Zayn’s music hits and Sami comes down to ringside.

Regal tells them that on May 20th at NXT Takeover, they will fight for the NXT Championship. Owens balks at putting up the belt. Sami tells Owens he’s been living in Sami’s shadow and that he needs this match. Sami says he fights for a prize and Owens isn’t the prize, the NXT Championship is the prize. Owens agrees to the match but tells Sami he will regret it.

Solid opening segment even though there was no physicality.

Backstage Blake & Murphy continue to hit on Carmela and she tells them to hit the bricks.

Sami Zayn is backstage with William Regal signing the title match contract and Alex Riley interrupts. Sami tries to give him encouragement but Riley acts like a dick. Sami says he’ll give him a match and Riley agrees.

Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady w/Carmela vs Wesley Blake & Buddy Murphy (Non-Title Match)

How you doin’? Enzo calls Wesley Blake, Frosted Flake and calls them SAWFT.

Short match with Cassady looking strong and Amore/Cassady winning with the Rocket Launcher.

Next up is a “get to know you” segment with Becky Lynch to set up her title showdown with Sasha Banks.

Bayley is backstage for an interview and she’s a basketcase. Emma apparently has some of her gear.

Baron Corbin hype video is next. Apparently the rules don’t apply to him.

Bayley vs Dana Brooke

Bayley is in control of the match and then her music hits and Emma dances down to the ring and shows Bayley that she has her headband. Dana takes control and wins the match with a Samoan Driver.

Regal announces that a #1 Contenders Triple Threat Match at NXT Takeover between Fin Balor, Hideo Itami and Tyler Breeze has been signed.

Hideo Itami vs Adam Rose

This could be interesting.

Pretty by the numbers I get some offense in, you get some offense in and then I beat you match. Rose pretty much got ran through despite being on the main roster.

Backstage Bayley is looking for Emma. Bayley is not happy.

Becky Lynch vs Sarah Dobson

Lynch finished off Dobson pretty quickly with a Fujiwara armbar submission.

Rhino is backstage and he calls out Baron Corbin.

Sami Zayn vs Alex Riley

We have ten minutes of time left for the Main Event. Kevin Owens joins the announce crew for the match. Somebody should tell Riley that back tattoo’s are not cool (unless you are BARAACK LESNOOOR and then they are awesome).

Riley hit a TKO for a near fall. Sami hit a somersault plancha but then he got attacked from behind by Owens causing a DQ. After a brief attack, Owens looked like he was headed back to the locker room but he thought twice about it. He came back and instead of going after Sami, he picked up Riley and nailed him with the infamous powerbomb to the ring apron. Ouch. Owens leaves both guys laying.

This was basically just a show to advance storylines. There were five matches but overall no lengthy matches or anything to actively seek out. If you are a fan of NXT you will enjoy this but it’s just a build show to Takeover.
