NXT (Episode 277) 5/13 Musings

It’s time for the best show the WWE has to offer…NXT.

If you are looking for a hold by hold re-cap, this isn’t it. Here’s how it works, I watch wrestling and record my thoughts, good or bad. I might not even get to who won the match or how but I will try.

If you missed last weeks episode you can catch up here.

This is the go home show for NXT Takeover.

They start the show by showing Sami Zayn’s attempt to win the US Title from John Cena on Monday Night Raw.

Solomon Crowe vs Baron Corbin

This should be interesting. Crowe came right out at Corbin but Corbin flipped him with a vicious clothesline. Crowe got in a little bit of offense but Corbin caught him in the “End of Days” in what turned out to be a squash match. I’m not sold on either of these guys yet.

Out comes Rhyno!

Rhyno challenges Corbin until they are pulled apart by the locker room. Rhyno proceeds to gore a bunch of the poor locker room guys.

Byron Saxton interviews Finn Balor about his upcoming #1 Contenders Match.

Next up, “Prince Pretty” Tyler Breeze is interviewed about the #1 Contenders Match.

Sasha Banks vs ?

I’m not sure they ever announced Sasha’s opponent. Sasha’s double-knee move in the corner is just vicious. After giving up some early offense, Sasha finished her opponent off in short order via submission.

Charlotte and Bayley are backstage for an interview and they are talking about Emma and Dana Brooke and hyping their match for Takeover. Woooooo!

The Uhaa Nation promo package airs again but since NXT hasn’t given him a name, we still don’t know who he is. Looks like he’s in for an uber-babyface run.

Carmella vs Alexa Bliss

They need to put Alexa Bliss with Prince Pretty. They could make a great pair IMO. Blake & Murphy saunter down to ringside during the match. Blake & Murphy distract Carmella allowing Bliss to hit the “Sparkle Splash”. Both of these women need some work but that’s why they are in developmental and they are learning on the job here.

Post match Blake & Murphy get on the mic and run down Enzo and Big Cass. Carmella tells them that Enzo and Cass will walk out of Takeover as the new tag-team champs.

Hideo Itami is interviewd backstage about the three-way #1 contenders match. Itami says he wants to win and fight Kevin Owens because of Owens lack of respect.

Emma and Dana Brooke are backstage and they accept the earlier challenge from Charlotte and Bayley.

Hideo Itami/Finn Balor vs Tyler Breeze/Adam Rose

Watching Rose in there with Itami and Balor was interesting because Rose has basically become an uber-jober on the big show. Rose did a good job in this environment especially with his selling and he worked well with Breeze. Rose hit a sweet spinebuster on Balor and then turned it over into a Boston Crab. Balor hits a Pele kick and got the hot tag to Itami, who cleaned house on Breeze. Itami is starting to get his moves down that he wants to feature in NXT/WWE. Balor blind tagged himself in after Itami had cleaned house and as Balor was going for his finisher, Itami did the same but then Breeze wrapped Itami up in a small package and got the 1-2-3.

As Itami and Balor were arguing, Breeze then stepped in and took both of them out. Rose and Breeze then celebrated until Breeze gave Rose a superkick and left everybody laying in the ring.

Once again they went to video of the Sami Zayn and John Cena match from RAW but this time focused in on Sami’s injury.

Sami Zayn is shown backstage at RAW and Zayn talks about his shoulder injury.

Sami Zayn’s music hits and he comes down to the ring. Before he can talk, Kevin Owens music hits and the NXT Champion joins Zayn in the ring. Sami says he hurt his shoulder against Cena but that he will be ready to fight Owens next week. Sami asks Owens one more time…why? Sami says what Owens is telling him, he isn’t buying. Sami asks if it’s jealousy because Sami got to NXT first? He asks if it’s about Kevin’s son and the fact that he’d rather wear a Sami Zayn shirt to school than a KO shirt? Owens walks from the ring to the ramp then finally speaks. Owens says Sami is hurt, he knows where he got hurt, what the injury is and at Takeover he’s going to hurt him again but this time Sami won’t come back.
