NXT (Episode 281) 6/3 Musings: Rhyno vs Balor

If you are looking for a hold by hold re-cap, this isn’t it. Here’s how it works, I watch wrestling and record my thoughts, good or bad. I might not even get to who won the match or how but I will try. If you want to get caught up on NXT before reading, check out last weeks episode here.

They start the show by re-capping the Elimination Chamber match between NXT Champion Kevin Owens and John Cena.

Tyler Breeze vs Adam Rose

This match made me seriously wonder if Adam Rose was sent down to NXT just to work on his rest holds. Rose picked it up in the second half of the match and I’m a Tyler Breeze fan but this was a yawner.

Solomon Crowe is backstage and he talks about the beating he took by Kevin Owens. He says it was worth it.

Greg Hamilton is on the ramp to interview Eva Marie and the crowd greets her with a round of boos and they keep booing her throughout the promo and chant “you can’t wrestle” at her. Eva Marie was obviously flustered by the crowd. Eva Marie puts over the women of NXT and says that’s why she’s in NXT as she wants to compete against the best.

William Regal announces that at the July 4th show in Tokyo, Japan, Kevin Owens will be defending the NXT Championship against Finn Balor live on the WWE Network.

Carmella w/Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady vs Alexa Bliss w/Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy

This was ok. Both women are very green but showed fire and the match prolonged the storyline here between these two groups.

Rhyno is backstage and talks about his match against Finn Balor later on the show.

Next up is a video package of the injured Sami Zayn and his shoulder surgery.

Vaudevillans vs Jason Jordan/Marcus Louis

Louis is back and he looks like he has a screw loose. Jason Jordan blind tagged himself in and threw Aiden English around the ring a bit. The match ended when Simon Gotch got the hot tag and set up Louis for English’s swinging neckbreaker. Louis new gimmick/character turn was blah. Jason Jordan is showing more and more potential each week. He’s really channeling a pre-injuries Kurt Angle vibe.

Video feature on Sasha Banks is next.

Finn Balor cuts a promo on his upcoming match in Japan with Kevin Owens.

Rhyno vs Finn Balor

This was a pretty good match although the crowd was a bit dead for it. Balor won via roll-up. I would have liked to have seen Balor go over a little stronger but then again you don’t want to keep jobbing out Rhyno, who was coming off of a loss to Baron Corbin.

As Finn Balor made his way up the ramp toward the exit, Rhyno hit him with a gore out of nowhere and then stood over him as the show went off the air.
