PDP Reaction: Elimination Chamber

The WWE Elimination Chamber event is in the books. Here’s a quick look back at the event and what I liked and didn’t like.

Elimination Chamber Match for the Tag-Team Titles: New Day (c) vs Cesaro/Tyson Kidd vs Prime Time Players vs Los Matadores vs The Ascension vs The Lucha Dragons

All three New Day members were allowed to compete in the event which I think added an interesting extra dimension.

What was Kalisto doing in this match? He got stuck on top one of the chambers for like ten minutes and then climbed to the center of the chamber just to do a drop in which he’s lucky he didn’t injure himself.

I liked that the Ascension eliminated two teams. Maybe they can get some heat back after the poor start to their WWE careers. I also like that the Prime Time Players at least got a chance to shine although I wouldn’t have put them in the final two.

They did an interesting spot to eliminate Kidd and Cesaro where Kidd pinned Kofi while Darren Young rolled up Cesaro and the ref counted out Cesaro without noticing that Kidd was also making a cover. This set up Prime Time Players against The New Day. Overall, this was a good match but it faltered a bit at the end when there were just two teams left. I thought Darren Young looked really good. I was half expecting him to turn on Titus and join New Day.

Winners: The New Day

Divas Title Match: Nikki Bella (c) vs  Naomi vs Paige

Better than expected. Nikki took a couple of big bumps and the reverse rana from Naomi on Paige was definitely unexpected. Nikki retained with a rack attack after Paige kicked out of the reverse rana.

Winner: Nikki Bella

John Cena vs Kevin Owens

Wow. This was great. Owens dominated early and then both guys just started throwing out bombs. Cena emptied his arsenal and did moves I either have never seen him do or have erased from my memory. Steen pulled out some innovative stuff and nearly killed Cena with his SuperPlex reversal. Cena looked like he was going to pull it out at the end but then Owens pulled out the pop-up power bomb for the win.

Post-match Steen cuts an in ring promo that says his time is now and the “Champ is Here”.

Winner: Kevin Owens

Bo Dallas vs Neville

Crowd was dead for this one and how could they not be after that last match? Neville won with the Red Arrow.

Winner: Neville

Elimination Chamber Intercontinental Title Match: Mark Henry vs R Truth vs Ryback vs Bad News Barrett vs Sheamus vs Dolph Ziggler

So Mark Henry was the replacement for Daniel Bryan. Ugh.

This match was a cluster and then Ryback won.

I just don’t see what they see in that guy.

Winner and new champion: Ryback

World Title Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs Dean Ambrose

Really good match as these two guys work well together. I think the crowd actually brought this match down a bit versus where it could have been (with a hot crowd).

Once Seth pulled the ref in front of him, I knew they were going to go with a “Dusty” finish and they did. Definitely a disappointing finish but with a PPV again in two weeks it gives them a quick set-up to that event.

Post-match Ambrose gets his title victory changed and then gets beatdown before Roman Reigns makes the save. Ambrose got on the mic and said he won the match so he’s taking the belt and he and Roman left through the crowd with the belt.

Winner: Dean Ambrose by DQ

Overall this was a good show highlighted by Owens vs Cena as the marquee match but Rollins/Ambrose and the Tag-Team Elimination Chamber were also good matches.
