Fans of wrestling, old and new, will be in for a unique experience when Citi Field presents Legends of Wrestling on Sunday, June 7, rain or shine.
Wrestling legends including Bret “The Hitman” Hart, Bill Goldberg, “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair, the Nasty Boys and many others will be performing in the squared circle that will be set up around the second base area on the baseball diamond that plays home to the New York Mets.
Legends of Wrestling tickets at Citi Field have an average price of $60.66 and a get-in price of $23, according to SeatSmart.com. Comparatively, tickets for the Mets next home game against San Francisco also average $60 with a $12 get-in price. The levels of seating are as follows: There is general admission Ringside seating, Sterling seating that is right behind home plate (Sections 11-19), Field seating from Sections 106-129, Hyundai seating from Sections 115-120 and Excelsior seating from Sections 310-328. New York City parking can be found through ParkWhiz.com, starting at just $15.
The festival will include Q&A sessions with the wrestling legends, along with opportunities for photo ops. Matches featuring independent wrestlers will lead into the main event and will include up to six matches in total. Along with the aforementioned stars, popular names Rob Van Dam, Lita and Scott Steiner are all scheduled to appear and/or compete.
Although fans may be craving to see Goldberg back in the ring—a wrestler who once endured a streak of 155 straight victories—he has publically stated he will only be appearing to reconnect with fans, and will “…do everything other than wrestle.”
It’s always interesting to see the modern ballparks versatility on display. Whether Citi Field is hosting a concert, a beer and/or food festival (Citi Field recently held a successful beer and bacon festival that got rave reviews) or a wrestling event, the field will convert flawlessly to showcase some of the best wrestlers of our time.
Even though the event’s website says rain or shine, it’ll be interesting to keep an eye on the turnout and the fluidity of the event if Mother Nature doesn’t comply on Sunday. With Citi Field being an outdoor facility, rain can certainly throw a wrench into the plans.
